At 3D Prima you get the right filament for your application. We will give you a short description and show you the advantages and disadvantages of each material. Furthermore, you will get a short insight into the possible applications of your filament.
When it comes to 3D printing, you're sure to have come across ABS. Filaments made of ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer) have become indispensable in 3D printing. ABS is one of the longest selling filaments on the market for 3D printing materials. Moreover, ABS components are lightweight, durable and resistant. The main disadvantage of ABS is its strong tendency to warp. You can counteract warping by using adhesives, heated building platforms and spaces. Many everyday objects (such as LEGO bricks) and industrial products contain ABS thermoplastics. Click on this link to get to ABS filament.
ABS+ is an ABS-based material which has been optimized by the totaling of additives. The additives make ABS+ easier to process and less prone to warping. Furthermore, ABS+ is the perfect material if you want to 3D-print very durable and strong components with excellent mechanical properties.
If you use ABS in electrical engineering, automotive engineering or other applications – where the avoidance of fire risks is important – you should buy flame-retardant ABS. Normal ABS is very durable and resistant. However, it has one crucial disadvantage; it can burn. This modified ABS filament is flame retardant. The material does not burn and extinguishes itself when the fire supply is omitted. It meets the UL-94 V0 standard for fire resistance.
3D printing with ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) filament if you need a UV stable, weather resistant and durable 3D printing material. Unlike ABS, it is even better for applications that require high UV stability. Moreover, ASA parts are perfect for prototypes that have similar properties to injection molded parts. In particular, it's significantly higher UV resistance is an advantage of ASA over ABS.
With ESD filament, you can 3D print components and objects that are protected from electrostatic discharge. This material property plays a decisive role especially in electrical engineering. Since ESD is based on PETG, it is also resistant to salts, acids and alkalis.
With flexible filament, you 3D print elastic and impact-resistant components. This material is rubbery, flexible and withstands high pressure and stretch. Use it to make industrial prototypes, useful household items, and medical models.
GLASS is based on PETG and is reinforced with glass fibres and additives. The material is characterized by its high resistance to acids, salts, alkalis and other solvents. With GLASS filament you can easily 3D-print very resistant and durable components. Furthermore, the material is perfectly suited for the generative manufacturing of robust objects and components.
Buy HIPS filament and you'll get an easy-to-use High Impact Polystyrene filament. This material is perfect as support material for your 3D printer. In everyday use, this thermoplastic is often used for computer, TV and other electronic enclosures. Many refrigerators have a first inner layer of cold-resistant HIPS plastic. If you use HIPS as support filament, you have to use limes to dissolve HIPS.
Metal filament consists of a basic material - mostly PLA - and genuine metal particles. Here you can buy metal filaments with real copper, brass or bronze particles. With the metal filament you can print real-looking objects with a very high metal content in 3D. Even if the objects feel real, they are things that only give an optical and haptic impression of real metal. Due to the base carrier material made of plastic, the metal filament has only minimal metallic properties such as electrical conductivity, durability and resistance.
PA6, which is also known under the trade name Nylon, is a thermoplastic. It is used in many everyday objects, products for garden and household as well as industrial applications. Nylon filament can be formed by the application of heat and can be used for 3D printing. Furthermore, nylon filament requires a high processing temperature, a good adhesive and preferably a heatable construction chamber. In addition, nylon filament has a strong tendency to absorb moisture from the ambient air, which has a negative effect on 3D printing results.
The thermoplastic PC (polycarbonate) can be found in many applications of our daily life. You will discover polycarbonates in CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, spectacle lenses, optical lenses, car headlight components, suitcases, smartphone covers, safety helmets, countless disposable medical products and many other everyday applications. Because of its high strength, many windows are made of polycarbonates instead of glass.
PCABS is one of the most widely used thermoplastics. Polycarbonate mixed with ABS plastic has the best properties of PC and ABS. Furthermore, Polycarbonate give it the superior strength and thermal resistance and ABS the required flexibility. PCABS is mainly used in the automotive, electrical and telecommunications industries.
PETG (polyethylene terephthalate) is obtained from PET by modification with glycol. Have you ever drunk from a disposable cola or 1.5 litre water bottle? Then you have already come into contact with PET yourself. PET is one of the most frequently used thermoplastics in our everyday objects and packaging. Moreover, PET is now also available as PETG for your 3D printer. This material is very transparent and has a low viscosity.
Along with ABS, PLA (Polyactide) is one of the longest existing filaments on the market. This thermoplastic is a synthetic polymer and classified as a polyester. Organic components from renewable raw materials such as corn starch are mostly used for this synthesis of Polyactide. PLA filament is inexpensive, easy to process and ideal for beginners. It has a minimal warping tendency and is perfect for prototype and model making. Because of these properties, PLA is most commonly used in 3D printing. Moreover, PLA is also recyclable and biodegradable.
Thermoplastics are the second most frequently manufactured and used plastic in the world. PP is found in many of our everyday objects such as water bottles, packaging, pipes, textiles and medical products. Polypropylene is characterized by its low weight, high chemical and mechanical resistance and biocompatibility. These outstanding material properties make this plastic so versatile. But why isn't PP already being used more frequently in 3D printing today? This material has a strong tendency to warp. We therefore recommend the use of a heatable building bed, closed building space and ideally this can be heated.
Polyvinyl alcohol (also called PVA, PVAL or PVOH) is a water-soluble thermoplastic. PVA is a component of many industrial applications, also in your household you will already have used products containing PVA. For example, hairspray and glue sticks contain parts of PVA, even tabs for your dishwasher or washing machine are based on this impressive plastic. Even sausage packaging and medical applications are made with PVA. Now PVA is available as a filament for your 3D printer. In this application it serves mainly as support material for your 3D prints.
3D print with Wood filament and you get components with a wood look. Furthermore, Wood contains real wood particles with a PLA portion to join them together. Now you can add components, objects and prototypes that give you a visual and haptic impression of holding a real wooden object in front of you or in your hand. Even your sense of smell perceives the Wood filament as true wood. When you process wood, you smell the typical smell of wood in your nose. Wood filament emits the same very pleasant and relaxing natural smell.

The term filament means thread, wire, fiber or string, to name just a few. The term filament is also used in biology, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. The word derives from the Latin expression filamentum (threadwork) and filum (thread). In the textile sector, filament is the term for fibres of virtually unlimited length. Filaments are also referred to as endless fibres. A filament is often defined as a fibre of at least 1000 metres. Other applications of the term filament include light bulbs, electric heaters and natural plant fibres. Filament is also referred to in the context of blockchain.
Typical materials for 3D printing are plastics, resins, ceramics, wood and metals. Here you will find the following filaments for your 3D printer: PLA (polylactide filament), ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene), PETG (polyethylene terephthalate), HIPS (high-impact polystyrene), ASA (acrylic ester-styrene-acrylonitrile), nylon, flexible, metal, wood, special and suitable support material.
The most commonly used filament in 3D printers for 3D printing is PLA (Polylactid Filament). Polylactides, also known as polylactic acids (PLA), are synthetic polymers. They belong to the group of polyesters. PLA can be used to generatively produce moldable plastics by applying heat. Besides ABS and PETG filament, PLA is one of the most widely used materials for 3D printers using the FDM/FFF technology. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) or Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) is a process used in the field of rapid prototyping, rapid tooling and additive manufacturing. This technology creates 3D objects with meltable plastic (thermoplastics) layer by layer.

It all depends on your application. For an easy, quick and affordable way to get started with 3D printing, we recommend using PLA filament. If you want to 3D print more sophisticated components, you should switch to ABS, ASA, Nylon, PP or other industrial plastics. A disadvantage of these more advanced filaments is the more difficult processing of these.
You've come to the right place. On this page you will find a wide selection of filaments for your 3D printer. Click through the range, find out and select the filament for your application.
If you want to buy cheap filament, you've come to the right place. 3D Prima offers you a wide range of filaments from different manufacturers. Our own filament brand PrimaCreator offers you high-quality and inexpensive materials for your 3D printer.
The basic materials for the different filaments are very similar. Depending on the manufacturer and substantial, the material properties are specifically controlled by the addition of additives and optimized for diverse applications.
Depending on what you want to 3D print, which 3D printer you own or what your level of experience is, you should buy different materials and filaments for yourself. Beginners should start to 3D print PLA or PETG on an entry-level 3D printer. If you can control the process you can move on to more advanced materials.
When looking at metal filament, always keep in mind that metal filament is based on PLA. Furthermore, the portion of PLA holds the metal particles together and bonds them. As a result, metal filament for FFF/FDM 3D printers is only as strong as PLA.
Filament is used for light bulbs and for 3D printers. The term filament refers to the thread-like material used for 3D printing. The plastic wire is melted by heating and emerges liquid at the nozzle. Extruded the liquified material solidifies and sticks to the material underneath.
In 3D printing, filament is the wire-shaped plastic material that is used by 3D printers to produce objects and components additively. Look on the data sheet of your 3D printer and see which filaments your 3D printer can process. The main factors responsible for 3D printing different materials is the maximum temperature of the extruder, enclosed and heated building chamber, heated print bed and amount of extruders.
How much filament costs depends on the type of material and the quality of the filament. Make sure you choose a filament that meets your needs and is suitable for your application. Prices for 1 kilogram of filament start at less than €20 and go up to several hundred €, depending on the filament material.
FFF/FDM filament is the material with which "standard" 3D printers work. Most 3D printers known today from Ultimaker, Makerbot or Prusa use FFF/FDM technology. Moreover, filament is a consumable that is supplied in thread form and is usually wound on a spool.
Nowadays more and more online shops, stationary shops and marketplaces like Amazon, Ebay or Otto.de offer filaments for 3D printers. It's best to buy the filament for your 3D printer from a trusted brand. Our PrimaCreator brand filaments offer you high quality at a very attractive price. Buy them cheap online here.
You should buy the brand of filament that best suits your needs, applications and budget. PrimaCreator offers filaments for a variety of applications and budgets. Have a look at our different materials.
When buying filaments, you should pay special attention to quality. This must match your requirements, your level of knowledge and your budget. For the quick production of design models you can buy a cheap filament. For components that have to fulfil a function, you should pay attention to quality! Cheaper, low quality, filaments often have problems with maintaining the same filament diameter through the whole spool of material.
When buying filament, check the description and specifications on your 3D printer. There you can see which diameter your extruder can process and to which temperature you can heat the hot end, heating bed and installation space. Filaments differ in these criteria:
On the market for filaments there are currently two different sizes. You can choose between thread-shaped filaments with a diameter of 1.75 mm and 2.85 (3)mm. 1.75 mm filament is the most widely used filament and is therefore available in a wide range of different materials, colors and lengths. 2.85 mm filament is more stable due to its larger diameter and somewhat easier to use with Bowden extruders. Many industrial and professional 3D printers work with 2.85 mm diameter. For example Ultimaker and Creatbot.
Most of the filaments offered here have a diameter of 1.75 or 2.85 mm. Usually they are the same material, the same thermoplastics with a different filament thickness. 2.85 mm filaments are better for use in Bowden setup 3D printers due to their enhanced stiffness. On the other hand 1.75 mm filament is more commonly used and offers a larger variety.
If a filament spool has a value of 500, 750 grams, 1 or 2.3 kilograms, this is always the net weight of the filament without the weight of the spool, roll or package. At 3D Prima you always get the promised filament weight.
PVA can be used as a carrier or support material. Furthermore, PVA is water soluble and dissolving. of PVA can be accelerated by the circulation of the water. Tip for quick dissolving of PVA support material: Put the 3D print with PVA support material in water for 10 minutes, then you can simply remove the support material with pliers.
In 3D printing, PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) is often used as a water-soluble support/support material? Place the component with PVA support material in a water bath. This dissolves PVA residue-free. By using PLA you can 3D-print very complex components with undercuts and overhangs.
PVA material should not be eaten by humans. However, it is classified as rather harmless, but you should make sure that your children and kids do not put the filament in their mouth or eat it. PVA is not only used in 3D printing as a filament, but also in conventional glue sticks.
Unmodified PLA filament is approved for the use with food by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration). However, there is one restriction. Only pure PLA without colorants or additives is approved for food contact.
You can use PLA, PETG and PP (polypropylene) filament for 3D printing of food packaging. Make sure that the material is approved by the manufacturer for food contact by the FDA or a European authority.
Buy PrimaSELECT PLA, PETG and PP (polypropylene) filament for 3D printing of components, objects or items that come into contact with food. Make sure that the filament manufacturer has approved the material for food contact.
ABS filament is not suitable for food contact. We recommend that you do not use ABS for food contact and food packaging – Better use PLA, PETG or PP.
PETG is based on PET. This material is modified with glycol to produce PETG. If you 3D print packaging or objects that come into contact with food, you can basically use pure PETG without additives and colorants.
Pure PLA, PETG and PP are classified as food safe. Of course, it depends on whether the filament of a particular manufacturer is certified for use with food.
Filaments made of ABS, HIPS, PC (polycarbonates) or PP (polypropylene) are considered temperature resistant. If you want to 3D print with very high temperature resistance, you should use the high-tech thermoplastics PEEK (polyetheretherketone), PPSU (polyphenylene sulfone) or Ultem (PEI). These resist – for plastics – extremely high temperatures.
For 3D printing at very high temperatures, you should use high-tech thermoplastics PEEK (polyetheretherketone), PPSU (polyphenylene sulfone) or Ultem (PEI). To process these filaments you need a high-temperature 3D printer with an enclosed and actively heated building chamber.
At 3D Prima you can find material for your 3D printer. Buy here PLA, PETG, ABS and other powerful filaments. We also sell our materials through Amazon, Ebay and a widespread network of resellers. Contact us if you want to get more information about our products.
Which is the best filament for your 3D printer depends entirely on what you want to produce with your 3D printer. You should also consider what your level of experience is, what 3D printer you are using, and what you intend to use your 3D prints for. Beginners are best off using PLA or PETG filament.
Filament is the consumable for your FFF/FDM 3D printer. This consumable comes as a long wire on a spool and reel. It is wound up and spooled and ready for 3D printing.
Which filament you should use for your Additive Manufacturing depends on which objects you want to 3D print. If you want to produce simple models, use PLA or PETG. For more demanding applications, use ABS, PC, nylon or more durable materials.
On the market are a couple of good filament suppliers who make good filaments. We recommend our own filament brands by PrimaCreator:

If you just want to 3D print, PLA is the filament for you. The thermoplastic material PLA is characterized by a very low tendency to warping, good layer adhesion and low-temperature processing. Furthermore this thermoplastic does not smell bad, is safe and environmentally-friendly. PLA can already be cleanly extruded at temperatures around 200 ° C.
As a beginner in 3D printing you should best use PLA or PETG filament. These materials are easy to process and have a relatively low tendency to warp. A disadvantage of PLA is its relatively low temperature resistance.
PLA is the filament for simple 3D printing. The material is very suitable for beginners due to its simple processing. Alternatively you can use PETG as the filament of your choice for 3D printing.Â
PLA is relatively easy to process at low temperatures. It has very little warping tendency and is very cheap compared to other materials. All these features make PLA the filament of choice when you want to get into 3D printing cheaply and easily.
If you're wondering if PLA is the filament for model making, here's the answer. In principle, PLA is very suitable for 3D printing of models, design templates and simple applications. 3D printing components that can withstand higher thermal and mechanical stress should work better with other materials such as ABS, PC, PCABS, PP, Nylon or high performance materials such as PEEK or PEI.
When it comes to 3D printing of food grade components, packaging and objects, you should consider PETG as the filament for this application. PETG is a glycol-modified PET material. The PrimaCreator PETG natural and clear is food safe according to FDA standards. Other colors should not come into contact with food.
PETG filament is becoming more and more popular. PETG is now used in an increasing number of applications. PETG is therefore a material that is being used more and more as a filament than PLA. Compared to PETG, however, PLA filament has an even greater price advantage. Furthermore, PLA is very environmental friendly. At 3D Prima you will find both PLA and PETG filaments.
3D Prima filament comes in a wide variety of colors and shades. With us you will find many colors based on the RAL system. Depending on the type of plastic, you have access to a very wide range of colors. PLA, ABS and PETG have the widest range of different colors.
It is very important to find the right filament for your 3D printing application. If you process the wrong filament for your application, the finished parts won't last and will break quickly. If you leave PLA parts in your hot car in the summer, they may warp due to the heat influence.
The PLA filament is translucent to transparent. However, PLA components will never be completely transparent. 3D printed objects made of "transparent" PLA filament are translucent with a mostly slightly yellowish hue.
You can buy good-value PVA cheap in the online shop of 3D Prima. 3D print with PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) and your dual-extruder 3D printer complex structures and overhangs. Work with PVA as support material. Simplify wash the PVA with water after 3D printing.
When you buy filament for your new 3D printer, you should pay attention to which material your 3D printer can process. You should also ask yourself what your level of knowledge of 3D printing technology is. Buy cheap PLA filament at the beginning and you can get good 3D prints relatively easily. 3D Primas PrimaValue PLA is a perfect filament for beginners.
